Arkansas Teacher of the Year

Justin Minkel of Harvey Jones Elementary School in Springdale is the 2006-2007 Arkansas Teacher of the Year.  Minkel was given the award at a ceremony in Little Rock on December 6, 2006.

The three runners-up for this year’s award are:

  • First runner-up Terri Riley, an eighth and ninth grade English teacher at Hamburg Junior High School in Hamburg.
  • Second runner-up Rebecca Keith, a fifth and sixth grade teacher at Ruth Doyle Intermediate School in Conway.
  • Third runner-up Glenda Holifield, a high school chemistry teacher at Jonesboro High School in Jonesboro.

The state finalists are:

  • Joy Bussey, a third grade teacher at College Hill International Studies Magnet in Texarkana.
  • Tammy Elliott, a family and consumer sciences to eighth- and ninth- graders at Nashville Junior High School in Nashville.
  • Sherry Cawthorn-Christopher, a seventh grade science teacher at Darby Junior High School in Fort Smith.
  • Cheryl Jackson-Cox, a kindergarten teacher at Avondale Elementary School in Marion.
  • Anita King, a kindergarten teacher at Mountain Home Kindergarten in Mountain Home.
  • Michael Klucher, a speech and drama teacher to ninth- and tenth-graders at North Little Rock High School East Campus
  • Kathy Robison, a music teacher for students in kindergarten through third grade at Castleberry Elementary School in Newport.
  • Phyllis Ann Watts, a seventh grade literacy teacher at Goza Middle School in Arkadelphia.
  • Brenda Webb, a third grade teacher at Searcy McRae Elementary School in Searcy.

All thirteen finalist were also awarded a Classroom Performance System from eInstruction.
